Midweek Check-in (Sept. 2, 2026)
Good evening, church family!
Last week a group showed up at the front door of my home ready to audition as our new worship leaders.
As you may know, we’re going through a transition period as we seek the next worship leader for our church. I’m confident that God will lead us to the right person, and I’ve already got a stack of resumes from people who have responded to the job listing we’ve posted. I would appreciate your prayers for wisdom.
But back to this musical group. I did get a brief advanced notice in the form of a church member calling me, asking if I’d be home at a certain time, divulging no other details, then ending the call. I think I heard some giggling in the background. My curiosity was certainly elevated, but there was no way I could have guessed what happened next.
There they were, at my front door: dressed to impress, primed and timed and geared to appear. My family and I welcomed them in with big smiles as they busted into a beautiful rendition of the Doxology. Check these ladies out:
These ladies, in their matching outfits, bags, headbands and earrings, looked better than any white-robed choir I’d ever seen and sounded just heavenly. We had some good laughs and heard some hilarious stories, including one about a clothing rack somewhere in Branson and a deal too good to pass up.
In the end, these wonderful ladies expressed their love and support for me, for my family and for the church. It was easily the highlight of my week and reminded me of a Psalm.
Our mouths were suddenly filled with laughter;
our tongues were filled with joyful shouts.
It was even said, at that time, among the nations,
“The Lord has done great things for them!”
Yes, the Lord has done great things for us,
and we are overjoyed!

Church family, we are a church who loves to worship the Lord and have fun, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Even our kids love to worship!
And I’m confident that Sunday morning we’ll do it again. Thanks for your prayers and patience as we seek to hire our next worship leader. Until then, I know our praise team and tech team will lead us well.

BED-BUILDING EVENT: We have the opportunity to bless dozens of kids right here in Wichita THIS SATURDAY! Join us on Saturday, Sept. 5 when we’ll meet in our parking lot to build beds for local kids who don’t have a bed of their own. Breakfast starts at 8 a.m. and lunch will be provided when we’re done. We’ll have all the plans and tools necessary to get the job done. We just need people willing to help! All ages and ability levels are welcome.
BAPTISM SUNDAY: Our next Baptism Sunday is on September 20. If you would like to learn more about baptism or sign up to be baptized, please contact Pastor Billy.
KIDS QUIZZING: This fall we are bringing back the Nazarene Kids Quizzing curriculum in our children’s ministry during the Sunday School hour. If you would like to help as we re-establish this valuable, Bible-based training, see our children’s director Tiffany Newell for more info.
TIME CHANGE: On Wednesday evenings our kids and youth ministries are starting and ending a bit earlier, which will help with bedtimes as we enter a new school year. These ministries will begin at 6:30 p.m. and end at 7:45 p.m.
PRAYER: I’d like to know how I can best pray for you. We have a way to submit prayer requests online anytime day or night, which will help me join you in prayer.
JUST FOR FUN: Hey, you read Pastor Billy's midweek check-in all the way to the end! As a reward, check out these crazy stories I came across recently:
· Snoop Dog has an ice cream company, and they’re looking to hire a full-time ice cream taster.
· It’s hard to believe major news outlets haven’t picked this us, but there was an alien abduction in a small town in Georgia (the same town Pastor Billy lived in from first to fourth grade).
· On a hot, sunny day in Rhode Island, a fully-loaded 18-wheeler tipped over and spilled all of its cargo: a massive amount of squid.
