Midweek Check-in (Sept. 10, 2026)

Good morning, church family!

It’s time for another midweek check-in, and there’s this odd, wet stuff falling from the sky. Weird (also, praise the Lord!).

I want to take some time to recap one of my favorite events of the summer. This past Saturday you, church family, showed up and became the hands and feet of God.

Our ministry partner, Sleep in Heavenly Peace, helped us make this happen. Using some of the dollars committed through The NEXT Initiative, we turned truckloads of raw materials into 30 beds that will go directly to children in need right here in Wichita.

Here’s a video that shows some of the highlights.

Along with a lot of bed-building activity, we also enjoyed delicious food from several volunteers that served so well so that we could enjoy breakfast and lunch together. It is such a joy to be a part of a church family that loves to get together, regardless of the reason. The leader of Sleeps in Heavenly Peace thanked us for our work and hospitality, and we’re already looking ahead to when we may be able to do this event again in the future!

This Saturday the beds we made will be delivered to kids across Wichita. If you would like to volunteer to be on a delivery team, contact Richard and Susan Neu.

Also, if you know of a family in need of a bed for their child, you can make that request here.

Again, thank you, church family. You are making a difference in our community!

“Little children, let’s not love with words or speech but with action and truth.”

-1 John 3:18

Your pastor,

Billy Byler

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: Throughout the year we partner with a local karate instructor who uses our facilities for classes, and this group’s annual karate tournament is Saturday, Oct. 10. We will once again provide concessions during lunch at the tournament, and this year all funds raised will go to a Nazarene elementary school in Belize as they expand their facilities to educate and feed more than 250 students. We need food donations and volunteers to serve in the concessions stand to make this happen. Contact Tiffany Newell for more info or sign up at the welcome center this Sunday!

CORNHOLE NIGHT: The men’s ministry will once again host Cornhole Night at the church this Monday (Sept. 14) at 6:30 p.m. Dinner and cornhole equipment is provided. Bring your appetite and bring a friend. All men are welcome!

BAPTISM SUNDAY: Our next Baptism Sunday is on September 20. If you would like to learn more about baptism or sign up to be baptized, please contact Pastor Billy.

FALL 2026 LAY MINISTER ACADEMY: This event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Abundant Harvest Church of the Nazarene in Pratt, KS and is designed to equip and network ministry leaders and volunteers from all over Kansas. The day will start with morning plenary sessions with special guest speakers, a homestyle lunch and breakout sessions for leaders of adult, youth, children, worship and compassionate ministries. The event is free. Register here.

FALL 2026 LADIES’ RETREAT: This year’s Kansas District women’s retreat is at the Wichita Marriott (across from Costco) Oct. 16-17. Special guest speaker Susie Schellenberger will speak on the theme “More than You Can Imagine”.Registration is now open.

FALL 2026 MEN’S RETREAT: This year’s Kansas District men’s retreat will take place at our church Friday evening through Saturday afternoon, Nov. 13-14. Activities include TopGolf, delicious meals, dynamic speakers, games, door prizes and the opportunity to connect with other men from all over Kansas. The cost is $100 for the weekend (or $50 if you can only attend one of the days). Register here and join Pastor Billy and the men of the church at this awesome annual retreat!

KIDS QUIZZING: This fall we are bringing back the Nazarene Kids Quizzing curriculum in our children’s ministry during the Sunday School hour. If you would like to help as we re-establish this valuable, Bible-based training, contact our children’s director Tiffany Newell for more info.

PRAYER: I’d like to know how I can best pray for you. We have a way to submit prayer requests online anytime day or night, which will help me join you in prayer.

JUST FOR FUN: Hey, you read Pastor Billy's midweek check-in all the way to the end! As a reward, check out these crazy stories I came across recently:

·       Dyson introduced a new toothbrush last week. It comes with an A.I.-powered camera that can identify where to shoot a “precision jet” of mouthwash with something called an “antigravity tank”. It also has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity and its own smartphone app. All yours for just $500.

·       Looking for a change in your breakfast cereal? A group of international researchers has discovered that milk from cockroaches has more than three times as much energy as milk from cows.

·       Tonight (Thursday) at 8:16 p.m. the International Space Station will be visible for seven minutes as it flies over Wichita starting in the southwestern skies and disappearing to the northeast. It actually happens often as it orbits our planet about 250 miles above our heads, and you can track it through NASA’s website and app.
