Midweek Check-in (Jan. 15, 2025)

Good morning, church family!

I want to pause in the middle of the week to share the words of Jesus and ask a favor of you.

There was a time when Jesus gathered his disciples together and gave them a command. It’s in Mark 6:31: “Come by yourselves to a secluded place and rest for a while.” Much work had been done for the Kingdom of God before that command. Even more work was ahead. But Jesus knew the importance of getting away.

So I’m writing this to you on Tuesday afternoon because starting Tuesday evening (after our church’s monthly board meeting), I’m setting aside 24 hours for rest, prayer, fasting and a good bit of sermon planning. This is a practice I’ve done 2-4 times per year for the past seven years, and I find that I am a better pastor and preacher when I’m intentional about this time.

The favor I’m asking of you is that you would join me in prayer for the Lord’s direction and the Holy Spirit’s clear voice as we look ahead to the seasons of Lent, Easter and Pentecost. I know this church is a praying church, and that is so valuable to me.

So thank you! As always, I want to know how I can pray for you. You can reach me at billy@woodlandlakescc.com to keep me updated, and please know that I’m praying for you and our church this week.

Let me hear what God the Lord will speak,

for he will speak peace to his people,

to his faithful, to those who turn to him in their hearts.

Surely his salvation is at hand for those who fear him,

that his glory may dwell in our land.

Psalm 85:8-9 (NRSV)

Keep reading to see the latest announcements, and remember: God loves you, and so does your pastor!

JUST FOR FUN

Hey, you read Pastor Billy's midweek check-in all the way to the end! As a reward, check out these crazy stories I came across recently:

  • During the Philadelphia Eagles playoff win on Sunday star wide receiver A.J. Brown was spotted reading a book on the sidelines. Now the book has become a No. 1 bestseller on Amazon.

  • The National French Toast Alert System will tell you, based on the weather, if it’s time to go to the store to buy milk, bread and eggs.

  • A hockey team in Hershey, Pennsylvania invited fans to throw teddy bears on the ice after the team scored its first goal. On Sunday the team scored a goal and fans threw ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND bears onto the ice. The game had to be delayed while players, team staff and even referees collected the bears, which will be donated to several local charities.
