Midweek Check-in (Aug. 19, 2026)

Good afternoon, church family!
It’s time to pause for a quick midweek check-in.

You probably know about a man named Paul who, in the New Testament, traveled extensively to share the good news of Jesus. Then… he went to Rome. Rome was NOT Jerusalem. Rome was the center of an empire that operated in power and oppression with Caesar set up as a god.
For a believer to walk into such a setting and boldly proclaim something so different to the Roman way of seeing the world – that was dangerous. But here’s what Paul wrote:
“I’m not ashamed of the gospel: it is God’s own power for salvation to all who have faith in God…” (Romans 1:16a)
Lately we’ve been considering Daniel’s circumstances. The Old Testament stories of Daniel and his friends detail another hostile, broken environment in which is risky to follow the Lord.
Yet Daniel was faithful anyway. And so were his friends. And so was Paul.
To live the life of the believer is to sometimes practice faith in spaces of unfaithfulness. Daniel boldly did so. Paul was unashamed.
Here’s a song sent to me by Will Eckels this week. And I think it captures this idea so well.
If we let our surrounding circumstances determine our faith, we will rarely live faithfully, especially in places of unfaithfulness. But the Lord is faithful. And He will give us all we need to live into His plans for our lives!
May the Lord bless you with His provision and plans today!
Your pastor,
Billy Byler
BED-BUILDING EVENT: Last night 391 kids in Sedgwick County went to sleep without a bed of their own. We want to do something about that. Join us on Saturday, Sept. 5 when we’ll meet in our parking lot to build beds for kids in Wichita who don’t have a bed of their own. Breakfast starts at 8 a.m. and lunch will be provided when we’re done. We’ll have all the plans and tools necessary to get the job done. We just need people willing to help! All ages and ability levels are welcome. Sign up in the church foyer this Sunday!
BAPTISM SUNDAY: Our next Baptism Sunday is on September 20. If you would like to learn more about baptism or sign up to be baptized, please contact Pastor Billy.
SWEET SEND OFF: Join us Sunday, Aug. 30 immediately after the Sunday morning worship service for a farewell reception for Pastor Nate and Jessica Boone. If you can help by bringing a sweet treat to share, sign up in the foyer or contact Kim Eckels or Ginger Graham.
PRAYER: I’d like to know how I can best pray for you. We have a way to submit prayer requests online anytime day or night, which will help me join you in prayer.
JUST FOR FUN: Hey, you read Pastor Billy's midweek check-in all the way to the end! As a reward, check out these crazy stories I came across recently:
· When everyone else goes to sleep at night, a hamster named Mollie gets up and runs six miles. Every night!
· Stop everything and put this on your calendar now. On Monday, Chick-fil-a will begin selling a new item: The Chicken and Waffles Sandwich.
· The world’s slowest concert has been going on for 25 years and will wrap up in about 600 years.
